When you can't cut costs

>> Sunday, May 31, 2009

Today was one of those days when I had to think about not cutting costs. Well kind of...

We went to the local pool store to get some parts for the pool to get it up and running. I had done some research for the past few weeks on parts or a new filter and figured it would be cheaper for parts. I found the rock bottom prices online and then we went to our local pool place to see what they had. They had a similar part that we needed and it was $5 more then the online price but no shipping so we went ahead and got it. We needed another part that I couldn't find online and it ended up being twice what we figured it would be. Oh well I really want the pool running. Last year I didn't open it because of my unemployment but this year I want it open to enjoy.

Then I headed over to Menard's. I did get a few unplanned items that were worth it. But the reason I went was for weed control. There is no way to buy cheap here. I needed the best, the most concentrated killer possible. I have a problem....a mint problem. I beg you do not plant mint in your garden or yards. Keep it in a pot on the concrete away from anything that has dirt or you will have a PROBLEM like mine. I planted mine in the ground in a pot and it still spread. Now it is spreading around the pool and UNDER THE DECK COMING UP THE DECK. Nothing and I mean nothing I have tried killed it not even straight bleach. I hate using chemicals but it has to go.

Then I bought some other chemicals for ants. I mean we have some major ant issues in the lawn this year. Again, I hate to use chemicals especially because of my beloved animals but I have got to get this under control. I bought ant spray and will put down some diazonon. I wanted to get away from doing this because of the ground water and such but I don't want my babies tore up by ants and they are really taking over the yard.

To finish up I did no school work and will suffer for that tomorrow when I am writing that big paper and studying for the test after going to a clients house for an assessment. But on the flip side I got some things done that needed done.

We have a pool too. And OMG, my MIL is having a mint problem too. I wanted some and she didn't want to give it to me. She took me outside and it really was taking over! I decided against it. Why can't strawberries go crazy like that?
