Composting 101

>> Wednesday, April 29, 2009

Update, above is a picture of the compost bin I got at sam's club for 39.95.

So how "green" are you? You are starting your own garden, perhaps you are getting ready for your first baby chicks to arrive and you want to start composting as well but where do I start and what do I do?

Go to composting 101 to see how to get it all going. My friend Denise and I decided to start composting along with our lasagna gardens. She used some wire fencing and I just bought a composting container ($40). This should not be hard right? Throw in some kitchen scraps and some leaves and black dirt is made...right? Well kind of but it takes a little more then that to get your composting pile looking, smelling and working right.

You will find out what type of compost container will work for you, the types of foods you can use, worms, leaves, grass, ashes, wood and the list goes on. Don't be discouraged by the "Science" words it isn't that bad and you can always go back to the site to help you remember what to do.

Happy P00-Pooing.

I just started a compost pile too! I told my husband I want him to build me a bin for our anniversary. He thinks I'm nuts!

Well my husband kind of thinks I am nuts right now too. But he will thank me why we have fresh veggies, save money and help his health all in one.
