Making your own Mayonnaise

>> Sunday, March 1, 2009

Hope I spelled Mayo right! This is for you Denise. Yes you can make your own Mayo at home. It is cheap, easy and so much better for you. Part of the detox is that we can have mayo but no sugar added. I love mayo and I made it once so it is easy. Go here to see how easy it is to make it. This post uses a stick blender but I think a food processor might work as well, not sure. I used to have a stick blender and need to purchase another one to do some baking I want. Let me know if you make this recipe and how it turned out for you.

Day 5 Detox

>> Sunday, February 22, 2009

I feel pretty good this morning. I feel like I have put good things in my body. I am down 5.5 pounds. Denise make that pedicure appt for Friday afternoon some where around you because we deserve it after this detox.

I woke up and made myself a fruit smoothie. I use some 100% juice along with some frozen fruit. Today I used strawberries and mango. Yesterday I used those along with some blueberries. I blend it up and that is it. I have always done it that way so it tastes good like that to me, no added sugar or anything else needed.

We have a lot of snow and the roads are drifted and icy so I plan on staying inside today.

Day 4 on the detox..continued

>> Saturday, February 21, 2009

I am pretty proud of myself for mostly sticking with this diet. Yes I know I had two slices of pizza last night but four days with no meat, dairy, diet coke, sugar...FAST FOOD...is very hard for me.

I went to our local supermarket again...(this isn't cheap folks) but I am buying extra fruit/veggies for family too. I have to admit as I walked through out the store, I would say, "I want that, I want that and it was not even the worst stuff, it was chicken and milk, and cheese...I love cheese.

Today's food intake: Watermelon, fruit smoothie (oh gosh that tasted good), a few rice crackers (wasn't thrilled with those). For dinner, I had some fresh cut up fruit, oven baked french fries...(OH yah baby, I love taters, I made them like I made the sweet potato fries) and then I made a salad but didn't eat it mostly because I tried a new way to make a dressing and it was bad. I picked some veggies out but I was already full.

I feel pretty good. My body is ok with what I have been eating, I can feel the fullness in my belly and mostly my mind says it is ok...I know I can have a wonderful fruit smoothie again later if I want it. However there is an internal fight in my mind that says you want to have the chicken that I made the family or how about some popcorn? But I am taking it one day at a time and today I am proud of myself.

Detox day four

Can anyone tell I haven't blogged much in a while and this morning I just have had two full hours of wondering online and I love when that happens because I find so many interesting things.

Woke up this morning ready to continue on my detox. I have a low grade headache that makes me feel...kinda icky...but we knew this would happen when you get rid of certain things...ie..diet coke, sugar and so on.

This morning I had some OJ and watermelon. I think I will run over to get some more of that watermelon today, it sure tastes good. My father in law has been enjoying the fresh fruit being in the house as well. I think I will experiment with some recipes for dinner tonight and see how that works out. I will report on that later.

Day two Detox dinner

>> Thursday, February 19, 2009

I tried to talk myself out of this diet at least a dozen times today but I made it without caving in and here are pictures of my dinner. I made fruit salad, a salad with lots of veggies and a bit of olive oil/vinegar and sweet potato fries.

I ate the salad first and it was ok, it was just food for my body you know? Then I got the sweet potato fries out of the oven....oh my baby..I had cut them thin and drizzled with olive oil, salt and pepper then sprayed a pan and baked them on a high heat. Oh they hit that spot...they hit that spot so well I could not eat more then a few forkfulls of my fruit. Topped off the dinner with some cold water and I am happy about my eating for the day.
I do need to find something different for my salad dressing yesterday and today after eating my salad my stomach hurt a bit and it think it was the olive oil...so need to find something a bit lighter to eat on the salad.

Day two detox update

Well I didn't cave, I wanted to but I didn't. I came home and ate watermelon, cantaloupe and three rice cakes (the rice cakes are thin ones and a serving is 3 for 60 cals.) I am ok for now. Tonight I plan on eating a few veggies and rice along with some fruit and plenty of liquids.

The weather is pretty nasty here today and my client list is done today so I am going to give myself a break and take a nap, after that I will do some work around the house, some regular work and just keep myself busy in general. I will update you tonight and tell you a bit more about what the diet entails.

Thanks everyone and hello to my new follower!

Continue day one detox

>> Wednesday, February 18, 2009

So here is the thing my fellow readers...since I have exposed myself, I might as well go for the gold there has to be other who feel this way...

As I said below I am weak...my mind is weak when it comes to my weight. I struggle but I struggle with it every minute of every day. I can't go one day with out food, I can't go one hour with out thinking about food. I can't go one day after eating really good for you on the detox diet (couldn't make it throughout the first day) food without crying, balling like a baby because my mind tells me it doesn't want to do this. I struggle with my mind....I fight, I tell it that we will not eat, we will not eat off the plan, we will not starve, we will be ok, I remind myself that I ate and I fed my body good things, things it needs to survive to feel good. But my mind cries, it says I want salt, chips, fast food, m&m's just more stuff.

I feel like the only one who feels this way, I feel alone and ashamed and wonder why can't I even last a day? However I consider that there are a lot of over weight people and that they must suffer too. So that is it folks, detox break down and I didn't even make it through the day.

Am I giving up? No, I bought a boat load of good things to eat and I will be damned if I don't eat them this time. So tomorrow I will wake up and eat fruit, veggies and some wonderful grains that taste good. Will I be able to strictly stick to every part of this plan? Probably not but I will make a few concessions as I can to stick to it because I have to, I hurt, I ache and I must gain some sort of control over my eating.

I have done so much with my life: ten years of schooling, had a child at 18, married 19 years of ups and downs, many miscarriages, several pain ridden surgeries and abandonment, and more. Yet I am a survivor, I stand here crying, yet surviving so tomorrow I will start a new day, and cry I am sure but I will survive that day too.

Day One DETOX Diet

My friend Denise convinced me I need to detox and get on with the dieting. It wasn't really hard to convince me because the past two weeks has been a free for all with eating and with the stress and everything going on in my life. But I need to learn to eat better through the stress in order to maintain energy and feel better not worse.

The detox starts day one with drinking lemon and water only. Those that are sick or weak should not do this step. I started out ok but I am weak...not weak in body just mind. No actually I get low blood sugar and don't feel well and after talking to my husband who really wanted me to eat a little something from the plan I decided I would eat a bit but only the things on the plan. SO there Denise you are better then me, I can't just drink water for a day...something is wrong with me.

I went to the local market and I spent (a lot and I do mean no coupon a lot of money) on getting the items I wanted for the plan. The next two weeks you can eat all the fruit, veggies you want with a few limits along with good for you oils, and brown rice. I got some great veggies, and fruits I wanted. I also got some great 100% fruit juices to use for smoothies.

I am a carb freak and I think I am going to be able to trick my system with the brown rice and brown rice pasta. Yes there are several different varieties of brown rice to choose from and I got some rice pasta. I also got Quinoa (called KEEN wa). I made myself some of this today. I took mushrooms, carrots, garlic, broccoli, cauliflower and sauted that in pure oil oil with a bit of roasted garlic red wine vinegar, 1/2 cup Quinoa and one cup low sodium chicken broth. It was totally delish and I felt really good about eating it. I think my body said, "hey what the heck is going on...this is good stuff."

I will post a bit more later on the plan and other things I purchased. Right now I am off to puppy class with my little sweetie pie.
